New obligations for businesses and EU-wide product recalls

Austria’s Product Safety Act 2004 entered into force on 1 April 2005, implementing the 2001 EC General Product Safety Directive in Austria. It introduced broader reporting obligations for manufacturers, importers and distributors of dangerous products and enabled rapid EU-wide product recalls for the first time. In recent years, businesses themselves have increasingly initiated such recalls.
