Third Amendment to Austria’s Automated Driving Regulation – 2024: Autonomous Driving Gains Momentum

Regulation issued by the Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, amending Austria’s Automated Driving Regulation (Third Amendment to the AutomatFahrV, Federal Law Gazette II No. 287/2024).

More Opportunities for Vehicle Testing in Austria

• Higher permitted speeds

• NEW: improved road safety through automated protective vehicles at roadworks (Section 9c): for the first time, approved trucks may be tested and used to protect roadworks and mobile machinery on motorways and expressways.

• Extension to category M vehicles: passenger cars and vehicles designed for carrying passengers. The amendment removes restrictions on passenger numbers and allows for standing passengers.
